How Candidates Drink Coffee

BY Carol Carey 2020-05-21

The college entrance examination is coming. This is a war without smoke. Both candidates and parents attach great importance to it. Although no one wants to see such a situation, many people regard it as a kind of sorrow. Many years later, many people recalled these years. It will be summarized as "unbearable", but everyone has to face reality. It is indeed a matter of urgency to rack up your brain and try your best to achieve good results in the college entrance examination. So it is not difficult to understand why some people are preparing to inhale oxygen and even take stimulants (Ritalin). Oxygen inhalation or stimulant is beyond my professional scope, and I am not persuasive in objection or approval. But for coffee, I have some suggestions:

coffee does have an exciting effect on the brain, which is easily confirmed by people who drink a lot of coffee. This is true for me. Before every time I give a lecture, I habitually drink a cup of coffee and drink it when I stay up late. I feel that it really helps the brain energy. However, the magnitude of the excitement of coffee varies from person to person, and some people (especially those who never drink coffee before) are very sensitive to coffee, drink a cup in the morning, and feel it at night (sleep well); And some people (especially those who drink coffee for a long time) are less sensitive to coffee, and drinking several cups a day does not affect sleep. My own feelings (and many others) feel that when I drink coffee for the first few times, the excitement effect is very obvious, and the brain state has improved greatly, but the effect is not so obvious afterwards, and I have not felt any obvious effect until now. Drinking coffee before lectures or staying up late becomes a habitual dependence. Therefore, if candidates who have never used coffee before have to drink coffee, they must pay attention to avoid being over-excited, affecting sleep or causing discomfort. For this reason, the amount of starting time should be small, and you must start trying in advance, and must not drink coffee for the first time on the test day. Of course, it is not advisable to advance too early (for example, one or two years before the college entrance examination), then the excitement is not obvious. Whether there is a long-term effect of drinking coffee on the brain state (learning ability) is still controversial. At least I don’t agree that high school students develop the habit of drinking coffee for a long time.

"Coffee may impair concentration when it excites the brain, so it affects thinking ability instead." There are many such reports, and based on the experience of coffee drinkers, this worry is not unreasonable. Adults need more energy and avoid fatigue when they are mentally working, while candidates need a high degree of attention and calculation ability during the exam. The two have different requirements on the state of the brain. The excitement of coffee has obvious benefits for adults, and it does not mean that the benefits for candidates are also obvious. So is drinking coffee beneficial (excited) or harmful (not easy to concentrate) to the candidates'' exam? The pros and cons cannot be weighed by those so-called research reports. My feelings are often more illustrative. My suggestion is that you can find a time (before the college entrance examination, it is not too early) to try a few coffees and try it. Candidates feel whether the effect of coffee is more profitable or not? After having experience, decide the exam time Whether to drink coffee and how much coffee to drink.
