10 measures to alleviate the symptoms of drunkenness

BY Carol Carey 2020-06-11

In order to avoid the argument of unnecessary saliva, I must first declare that I do not advocate drinking, but on the contrary, I am willing to promote the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations for alcohol. The less alcohol, the better. Even if a small amount of drinking is really good for preventing coronary heart disease, it is not a recommended disease prevention method, nor can it be an excuse for alcoholism or heavy drinking.

Then, we will discuss today’s topic, how to make your body so uncomfortable when drinking. This topic is meaningless to those who particularly like drinking or alcoholism. The more they drink, the more comfortable they are, so please do not look down.

   1. The most important thing is the right amount. Don’t drink too much for people with small amounts of alcohol. Generally, when you feel uncomfortable, you are drunk (overdrinking). Therefore, you must know your wine volume in advance, and when you drink it, you must brake in time or in advance. As long as it is not excessive, it is generally not uncomfortable.

   2. Equally important is the quality of wine. Regardless of white wine, red wine or beer, high-quality wine (must not be a bargain) is not easy to feel uncomfortable, or the degree of discomfort is relatively light, especially head symptoms (dizziness, headache, etc.).

   3. The degree of wine is a key factor. The same volume of wine, the higher the degree, the more alcohol. The more alcohol, the worse the degree of discomfort after drunkenness. Generally, high-level liquor is around 50°, low-grade liquor is around 40°, red wine is around 15°, and beer is around 3.5°. The method for estimating the amount of alcohol is as follows:

Alcohol (g)=drinking volume (ml)×degree (%)×0.8, for example, a bottle of 500 ml 52 degree liquor contains 500×52%× 0.8=208 grams. The alcohol content of each wine can be easily found on the label.

   4. The courage (mood) of drinking is also very important. The more afraid of drinking and the more drunk, the easier it is to feel uncomfortable. On the contrary, drinkers who encourage themselves to drink or have courage are relatively uncomfortable. Estimates may be the role of psychological cues. Of course, this is just my experience and I have never done a controlled study. You can try it yourself.

   5. Avoid drinking on an empty stomach. Eating some solid foods before drinking alcohol, especially buns, rolls, cakes and other "water-absorbing" foods, can delay the absorption of alcohol in the stomach. Of course, some people report that eating high-protein foods such as meat, eggs, and milk before drinking alcohol can also reduce the stimulation of alcohol on the gastrointestinal tract. Fruits and vegetables are also said to have certain effects. Obviously, the most critical factor is not to drink on an empty stomach.

   6. Slow down the rate of drinking, do not drink too quickly. It takes time for alcohol to be metabolized in the liver or excreted through the kidneys, lungs, skin, etc., so drinking slowly (long time) helps to control the concentration of alcohol in the blood and reduce the degree of discomfort.

   7. Speak loudly during drinking, speed up your breathing, and "spray" alcohol. Lung breathing can excrete alcohol, so-called "alcoholic smokers" is also. When drinking, do not be silent, but speak loudly and speed up your breathing. In this sense, singing is one of the ways to reduce the symptoms of drunkenness.

   8. Sweating is also an important method to accelerate the excretion of alcohol. Sweat contains alcohol, so-called "whole body alcohol" is also true. Drink alcohol in a slightly warmer environment, or sweat while exercising (such as a bar or discotheque) Both can accelerate the excretion of alcohol and reduce the uncomfortable feeling.

   9. Drink more water and urinate more. Those who go to the toilet frequently while drinking alcohol tend to drink more, because alcohol can be excreted through urine. Drink plenty of water while drinking to speed up urination, which can increase the excretion of alcohol and reduce the uncomfortable feeling.

   10. Active vomiting (reflexive vomiting caused by plucking the throat by hand) is not a recommended method, because this action may cause pancreatitis. However, it is indeed the most effective way to expel alcohol, the principle is similar to gastric lavage. In order to minimize the risk of inducing pancreatitis, it is recommended that the amount of food consumed is not large, and early drinking (eating less food and vomiting while drinking). It is not recommended to actively induce vomiting after a full meal.

By the way, popular anti-hangover health products on the market, its main role (if any) is to protect liver cells and reduce the damage of alcohol to liver cells. Generally cannot increase the amount of alcohol, nor can it accelerate the metabolism or excretion of alcohol. However, after some people have used these health products, the uncomfortable feeling has indeed been alleviated, which is estimated to be a psychological effect. As I said before about the psychological effect, the brave man meets in a narrow path.
