How many nuts can you eat every day

BY Berton Gladstone 2020-05-07

Nuts include peanuts, watermelon seeds, sunflower seeds, walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, pistachios, cashews, pumpkin seeds, etc. The common nutritional characteristics are high protein, high fat, very little starch, and rich nutrition. Although chestnuts (such as chestnut) and lily are also regarded as nuts, they contain a lot of starch, but have less protein and lower fat, so it is not within the scope of this article.

Chinese Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents 2007 compiled by the Chinese Nutrition Society divides daily food into 11 categories, namely water, fruits, vegetables, eggs, fish and shrimp , Livestock and poultry meat, soybeans and nuts, milk and its products, salt and oil. Among them, nuts and soybeans are grouped together, and the recommended intake is 30-50g per day.

Recommendation for combining nuts and soybeans in the Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents 2007 is that nuts have higher protein and good nutritional value, and are similar to soybean protein (however, whether the protein in nuts is like soybean Protein is also a "high-quality protein", which is enough to replace meat protein? This question is questionable for now). The combined intake of soybeans and nuts is recommended to be 30-50g per day. It cannot be concluded that 30-50g of nuts can be eaten instead of soybeans. Regardless of whether the nut protein quality (nutritional value) may be inferior to soybeans, the fat content in nuts is far higher than that of soybeans. Each 100g of soybeans contains 35g of protein, 16g of fat, and the protein content is 2.2 times the fat content; each 100g of peanut kernels contains 24.8g of protein and 44.3g of fat, and the protein content is only 56% of the fat content. It can be seen that peanuts (similar to other nuts) are "high fat and low protein" compared with soybeans. Replacing soybeans with 30-50g of nuts will cause excessive fat and energy intake.

Therefore, "Chinese Resident’s Dietary Guide 2007" (Tibet People’s Publishing House, January 2008, p. 175) stated in the description of "Chinese Residents’ Balanced Diet Pagoda": "conditional residents You can eat 5~10g nuts instead of the corresponding amount of soybeans." According to the "Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents 2007" (page 82), "50g per week is appropriate".
