Be careful with pollen allergies in spring

BY Carol Carey 2020-05-24

Recently, have any of your colleagues and friends started to sneeze, runny nose, cough, tears, severe or even mild asthma? Yes, this is likely to be a spring allergy symptom.

Naturally, pollen is a major allergenic source. The diameter of pollen is about 20-50 microns. When it is scattered in the air, it is very easy to be inhaled into the respiratory tract and pollen allergies. People who inhale pollen will have an allergic reaction, which is called pollen allergy.

The age of the first onset of spring pollen allergy ranges from 2 to 68 years old. Among them, 15 to 34 years old are the high incidence age group of spring pollen-induced rhinitis, and 25 to 44 years old are the high incidence age group of asthma. Without prevention and treatment, about half of allergic rhinitis patients will develop allergic asthma after a few years of onset. Asthma patients will have instant suffocation when they get sick, and even life-threatening. Symptoms are mainly cough, suffocation, wheezing, aggravated during activities, severe cases can not lie down to sleep at night, even need to go to the emergency department, intravenous infusion of aminophylline or glucocorticoid treatment.

Can allergic rhinitis and asthma be cured? Strictly speaking, it can’t be cured, only through symptomatic treatment and control of drugs to reduce patients’ symptoms and achieve good control.

In the pollen season, people with allergies should stay indoors as much as possible, do not go to spring in densely populated areas in the suburbs, and do not do vigorous sports, such as mountain climbing and long-distance running. In dry and windy weather, the pollen content in the air is high, and the symptoms are also severe. You can wear goggles and masks to go out. Enter the room to change clothes and prevent pollen from being carried with you to minimize the chance of the patient being exposed to allergens.

Prevention and treatment of pollen allergies

   1. Check out allergens and avoid contact as much as possible. The most effective and direct way is not to contact allergens, so that the body will not be allergic The reaction fundamentally prevented the occurrence of allergies.

   2. Rinse the nasal cavity with a saline nasal rinsing device from the morning. Children use a professional nasal cleaning spray for children.

  3. Minimize going out during the peak pollen period, and take protective measures when going out, such as wearing a mask or glasses to reduce the chance of contact. After returning home, clean the exposed face and air in time Hand skin.

   4. If possible, try not to walk outside as much as possible. It is best to prepare a fresh air purifier at home, used with a fan or air conditioner, not only to purify the air, but also to maintain indoor air circulation and improve indoor air. Quality effect.

   5. It can strengthen physical exercise and increase self-resistance. Experts point out that proper vitamin supplements for three meals should be taken in a total amount of 1,000 to 2000 mg of vitamin C per day, and eaten in portions during three meals, and then ingest 400 units of vitamin E at the same time. This is because certain inflammations in the human body tend to become more active this season. Vitamin C can help slow the appearance and circulation of these inflammations, and vitamin E can assist vitamin C to actively play the above role.
