What is fat cancer
Fat cancer is one of the malignant tumors of soft tissue. The source of mesenchymal tissue: fat, the exact name should be liposarcoma. Both cancer and sarcoma are malignant tumors. The former comes from parenchymal organs, and the latter comes from interstitial tissue. Soft tissue tumors are very rare, accounting for 1% of all cancers. Liposarcoma accounts for 20% of soft tissue tumors.
There are differences in liposarcoma Type:
1. Atypical liposarcoma, or grade 1 or well-differentiated liposarcoma (high degree of tumor differentiation and low malignancy) are common in the abdominal cavity, and the tumor volume is relatively large. The growth is slow and the possibility of transfer is relatively small.
2. The normal morphology of fat cells in polymorphic liposarcoma or tumors disappears or is high-grade, and is more likely to occur in the abdominal cavity and extremities.
3. Myxoid liposarcoma, which is more common in the abdominal cavity, has behavior characteristics between the former two. It is more inclined to invade other fat tissues in the abdominal cavity rather than spread to the lungs. The tumor cells have satellite foci.
liposarcoma was not painful at the beginning and was rarely accompanied by other symptoms. So I found it late.
Like other soft tissue tumors, the treatment of liposarcoma is mainly surgical operation. The tumor tissue is removed as much as possible. If it belongs to the first type above, only surgery is enough. Second and third, radiation therapy is performed after the operation, the purpose is to kill the remaining tumor cells and reduce the possibility of recurrence. Usually, the large volume of liposarcoma will cause certain difficulties in surgical operation, so before the operation , The doctor will recommend a course of radiotherapy or chemotherapy first, the purpose is to reduce the size of the tumor. Of course, if the location and development of the tumor are not suitable for surgery, and the patient has already received the maximum amount of radiation, you can only choose chemotherapy.
The prognosis is still the first type. If the tumor has metastasized, the prognosis will be poor. Depending on the type, the 5-year survival rate of the disease varies from 25-75%.
