Why give hormones to children with pneumonia

BY Iris Wheatley 2020-08-01

Recently, it was fog and haze weather, a high incidence of respiratory diseases, a lot of sick children, the ward was full, and it was difficult to find another bed. I saw a lot of children with asthma, high fever and high blood in the clinic. In the face of such children, it is not possible not to "strike with a heavy rod". The infusion still needs to be infused, and in many cases, hormones are used.

Speaking of hormones, many parents talk "Plain" color change. So today, please study with me, why pneumonia, may use hormones.

The treatment of pneumonia is as follows:

Glucocorticoid: It can reduce inflammation and exudation, relieve bronchospasm, improve vascular permeability and microcirculation, reduce intracranial hypertension, use Indications:

  1. Severe shortness of breath or difficulty breathing.

   2. Symptoms of systemic poisoning are obvious (for example, when the blood is high, suggesting sepsis).

  3. Infectious toxic shock.

   4. Brain edema occurs.

The hormones can be used for a short period of time in the above situation. Hydrocortisone succinate or dexamethasone can be added to the intravenous drip in the bottle for 3 to 5 days.

In fact, the above description is just the tip of the iceberg for hormone use. In the clinic, there are many places where hormones are used, acute asthma attacks, wheezing bronchitis, sepsis, anaphylactic shock, anaphylactoid purpura, nephropathy, intracranial hypertension and so on.

The appearance of hormones has saved the lives of countless children.

It is true that hormones have side effects. However, if you choose Western medicine treatment, in the case of indications, reasonable use, especially short-term use, will not cause too much impact on the child. The two powers are less important than others. In many cases, we have no choice.
