Focus on fatty liver, focus on health

BY Berton Gladstone 2020-05-15

As the name suggests, fatty liver is too much fat in the liver. There is a certain amount of fat in the normal liver, accounting for 2% to 4%. If the fat exceeds 5%, it is fatty liver, which is a very traditional concept. The traditional concept also believes that the main hazard of fatty liver is the development of liver fibrosis and cirrhosis. How to avoid and treat liver fibrosis and cirrhosis has always been the focus of fatty liver treatment.

However, research in recent years has confirmed that fatty liver is not only a disease of the liver, but also a systemic (metabolic) disease. Fatty liver is closely related to obesity, diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, coronary heart disease, arteriosclerosis, etc. In fact, fatty liver and these chronic diseases have a common pathogenesis-insulin resistance syndrome. Insulin resistance syndrome, also known as "metabolic syndrome", includes obesity, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, diabetes, fatty liver, gout and a series of chronic diseases associated with metabolic abnormalities. The latest research also found that fatty liver may be an early problem in insulin resistance syndrome, and has a certain early warning effect. Therefore, under normal circumstances, getting fatty liver means that the body''s metabolism is in trouble, and it means that it is easy to suffer from the above-mentioned serious chronic diseases. The biggest harm of fatty liver may not be liver fibrosis and cirrhosis, but the accompanying cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and diabetes. According to the survey, patients with fatty liver eventually die of cardio-cerebrovascular disease 3 to 5 times higher than those without fatty liver.

Therefore, for patients with fatty liver, it is not enough to pay attention to and prevent liver fibrosis and cirrhosis, but also to pay attention to and prevent these serious chronic diseases that are often accompanied by fatty liver, that is, prevention and treatment of insulin resistance Syndrome. The occurrence of insulin resistance syndrome is closely related to unscientific lifestyle. This means that patients with fatty liver only take liver protection treatment is not enough, but must also take comprehensive measures, including diet, traditional Chinese medicine health, exercise, weight loss, alcohol withdrawal and other lifestyle "treatment". Moreover, there is no doubt that these nutritional and health care measures for fatty liver will actually be beneficial to the prevention and treatment of most of the common chronic diseases mentioned above.

Because there are no special drugs, fatty liver must be treated with comprehensive measures, and unhealthy lifestyles must be improved. The effectiveness of fatty liver treatment does not depend on which kind of "good" drugs, but depends on the "synthetic" degree of comprehensive measures, or the degree of improvement in lifestyle. For the treatment of fatty liver, a new concept is currently advocated, that is, not only liver doctors, but also related departments such as endocrinology, cardiovascular, nutrition, rehabilitation, and sometimes even require the participation of psychologists.
