Ten common reasons to gain weight
In the nutrition consultation clinic, I often receive some thin or fat consultants, understand their weight change process, analyze their possible causes, and give some suggestions for improvement. This is part of my outpatient work. Let me summarize the common reasons why thin people become fat (fat), there are about 10 cases.
1. Gaining weight after childbirth
Weight gain is one of the most important changes during pregnancy. Most of the weight gain will recover during postpartum lactation, but there are also a considerable number of women who are unable to gain weight Returning to the pre-pregnancy state, this condition is called "postpartum weight retention" and is one of the important causes of female obesity. Too much weight gain during pregnancy (e.g. more than 30 kg), not breastfeeding or breastfeeding for a short period (e.g. less than 6 months) or low milk, too much supplementation during lactation, these will make postpartum weight retention more serious. After missing the lactation period, it is very difficult to lose weight after giving birth.
2. Hairdressing after marriage
Many men do not wait to give birth, and they start to gain weight soon after marriage, mostly due to changes in eating habits and stabilization of life rhythm. For "fa luck". In most cases, weight gain is only a small increase, will not lead to severe obesity, but there are exceptions out of control.
3. Quitting smoking makes you fat
It is very common to gain weight/get fat after quitting smoking. The reasons are diverse and complicated, including the habit of putting things in your mouth, which increases the amount of food you eat. Stopping nicotine supply reduces energy metabolism and increases appetite. In addition to gaining weight, there are many health problems ("withdrawal reactions") after quitting smoking, but all of these are worthwhile, and the health benefits of quitting smoking are even greater. Controlling diet and increasing exercise can avoid gaining weight after quitting smoking.
4. Frequent or continuous eating at a restaurant to gain weight
Dining outside, except for a few simple meals such as noodles and dumplings, most of them will encounter high oil, high salt and drinks (drinks or wine) ), coupled with attractive taste, friend interaction, convenient and happy, the intake of energy (including but not equal to the amount of food) has increased greatly, leading to obesity. Some people doing business, running sales, and maintaining customers regard this situation as an "occupational disease."
5. Drinking water for obesity leads to obesity
Children and young people prefer sweet drinks, which are the main marketing objects and consumer groups of such products. Sweet drinks contain a lot of sugar. One bottle (500 ml) of ordinary cola contains more than 60 grams of sugar. It takes 60 minutes to walk to consume these sugars, which is fatter than drinking a bottle of beer. If the lack of exercise is due, excess fat accumulation will inevitably occur.
6. Going abroad to gain weight
Going abroad (referring to the European and American countries) for more than a few months will often affect the weight. Young people are mostly fat, and drinking and eating meat are the most common reasons. Sugar added to beverages, chocolates, sweets or snacks can easily become fat in the body, making people gain weight quickly. However, some elderly people have lost weight for months after going abroad. On the one hand, they do not need to work or study to play mainly (walking around consumes more energy). On the other hand, the intake of staple foods such as rice and steamed bread is significantly lower than that in the country.
7. Knee injuries make you fat
Many people are now more exercise-intensive, and they are keen to play intensive sports such as playing, boarding, and skiing, and sports injuries are increasing. People who regularly exercise intensively will lose weight and gain weight when their knees (leg injuries) stop exercising and their energy consumption decreases. There are also some elderly people who cannot walk as usual due to osteoarthritis or degenerative changes in their knees, which can also lead to weight gain.
8. Insulin injection leads to obesity
Type 2 diabetes patients who need insulin injection to control blood sugar, most of them have more severe insulin resistance. One effect of insulin (injected and self-owned) is to promote the synthesis of fat by sugar, so insulin resistance often leads to weight gain, and the fat is mainly accumulated in the waist, abdomen or torso, which makes the limbs appear extra thin and weird. Poor diet control or insufficient exercise makes it worse.
9. Use hormones to gain weight
Another situation that leads to weird body weight is the use of hormones. Controlling nephritis, asthma, lupus erythematosus and other diseases requires long-term use of hormones. These hormones promote fat Synthesize and focus on the face, back and torso. All fats caused by hormones are more difficult to lose weight, but controlling the diet and increasing the amount of exercise can avoid or reduce this type of obesity to a certain extent.
10. Hypothyroidism "obesity"
Hypothyroidism (hypothyroidism) is a common disease in women. Insufficient thyroid hormone secretion leads to low basal metabolism and easy to gain weight. At the same time, it also causes mucous edema, that is, there is accumulation of water under the skin but no swelling is seen. This aspect will increase body weight, on the other hand, it will "mask" the subcutaneous fat, it seems that there is no fat, or make people mistake Thought it was strong muscles. This "obesity" (including the weight of water) is very stubborn. Unless you take thyroid hormone to treat hypothyroidism, even if you diet hard, exercise every day, and struggle toss, you will not lose weight. Thyroid diseases (including but not limited to hypothyroidism) are very common at present. If women have this stubborn "obesity", they should go to the hospital to check the thyroid function (three or five functions).
In fact, there are many situations that make people fat, such as drinking milk before bed, home remedies (drinking glucose powder), healing of stomach problems, large supplements after blood donation, bed rest braking, etc. This is not surprising, after all, weight change is one of the most basic and common body changes. The various factors that affect our body, diet, exercise, disease, medicine, aging, fertility... many will cause changes in body weight or body composition, either fat or thin.
