Is sternal pain necessarily cancer of the esophagus?
The symptoms of esophageal cancer are signs of esophageal cancer. Therefore, everyone is very sensitive to the symptoms of esophageal cancer. In fact, these symptoms are not terrible. Terrible is the complications of esophageal cancer. In the early stages of esophageal cancer, these symptoms can be eliminated by appropriate treatment. However, once there are complications in the advanced stage of esophageal cancer, it is more difficult to control these complications and the development of esophageal cancer.
Esophageal cancer is caused by the esophagus Of malignant tumors, their occurrence often has a long process, which means that it is impossible to suddenly emerge like a cold and fever. It is generally believed that the occurrence of esophagus must pass through stages such as epithelial dysplasia, carcinoma in situ, invasive carcinoma, and metastatic carcinoma. Atypical hyperplasia and carcinoma in situ can be completely cured. Atypical hyperplasia of esophageal squamous epithelium is an important precancerous lesion of esophageal cancer. It usually takes a few years or even ten years from atypical hyperplasia to canceration. Invasive esophageal cancer is also known as advanced cancer. About half of the patients can be cured, but it is less likely to cure metastatic cancer. Generally, the disease can only be controlled. Therefore, esophageal cancer is diagnosed early.
1. First choice for gastroscopy, even an essential examination! Because the key to curing esophageal cancer is early detection and early treatment. Therefore, those who are over 50 years old, who have a feeling of stagnation after eating or have difficulty swallowing should do gastroscopy in time. In general, gastroscopy rarely misses the diagnosis of esophageal cancer. If the gastroscopy photos are clear, even if the gastroscopy is done in a small hospital, the inspection report says that the esophagus is not diseased, and generally it will be fine. However, if gastroscopy in a small hospital reveals a lesion in the esophagus and cannot prove whether it is esophageal cancer or a precancerous lesion, an experienced doctor should be consulted.
2. Some other imaging methods such as esophageal barium meal imaging are the most commonly used, mainly used for patients who are not suitable for gastroscopy, but these methods can only find the esophagus of advanced stage or larger lesions Cancer has limited effectiveness in detecting early cancer or precancerous lesions, so it is not recommended as a routine test. CT examinations have similar limitations and cannot replace gastroscopy. However, after being diagnosed with esophageal cancer, doctors often recommend patients to have a CT scan again. The main purpose is to observe whether the esophageal cancer has metastasis or spread outside the esophagus. If it is clear that other organs also have tumors, it means that the esophageal cancer is advanced. Surgery is not the main method.
3. If the experience conditions are good, patients with esophageal cancer can recommend positron emission tomography (ie, PET-CT examination). This method is relatively simple and convenient for detecting whether esophageal cancer has systemic metastasis. The principle is to use tumor cells that are highly metabolized cells. It eats more than normal cells and is not full. The patient is injected with a specially marked sugar during the inspection (variant sugar is fake, not after eating) (Digestion), if there are cancer cells in the body, see a lot of sugar to eat, and normal cells eat a little bit full and no longer eat. As a result, if a large amount of labeled sugar accumulates on the CT scan, it may be a tumor. It is clear where these tumors are found and where the tumors have metastasized.
In short, the symptoms cannot tell everything. Once you feel uncomfortable, you must go for a system check. The above checks are all possible.
