Treatment of adrenal medulla

BY Paula Lowell 2020-07-24

Adrenal medullary adenoma is a tumor that occurs in the chromaffin tissue of the adrenal medulla, sympathetic ganglia, parasympathetic ganglia, or other parts. This tumor continuously or indirectly releases a large amount of catecholamines (norepinephrine, epinephrine, dopamine) to cause episodic hypertension with sympathetic excitement as the main clinical manifestation of endocrine diseases. Severe attacks can cause cardiovascular and cerebrovascular accidents and endanger the lives of patients. Early surgery is required and can be cured. Originoo_42964_90099370_l.jpg

< p> Adrenal medullary tumors mainly include neuroblastoma, ganglion cell tumor and pheochromocytoma. The main causes of adrenal medulla hyperfunction are pheochromocytoma, malignant pheochromocytoma and adrenal medulla hyperplasia. Adrenal tumors are mainly treated with surgery. For small adenomas, enucleation is generally used, together with the normal tissue at a distance of 0.5 cm around the tumor. The adrenal tissue close to the tumor has polyploid abnormalities, which can cause tumor recurrence.
Adrenal medullary adenoma patients need to be treated as soon as possible. The preparation before surgery is the same as pheochromocytoma. The operation is smoother than pheochromocytoma, the blood pressure fluctuation is less during the operation, and the bleeding is slower, unlike the blood flow of pheochromocytoma. Of course, it is also related to the expansion of the preoperative and the completeness of the drug preparation. In addition, patients should also eat a small amount of large meals and eat light and easily digestible food.
