The lack of magnesium may be a factor that increases the risk of kidney stones. An adequate supply of potassium and magnesium can improve calcium utilization and prevent calcium from being excreted in the urine, thereby reducing the risk of kidney stones. At the end of the last century, studies have found that potassium intake is inversely related to the risk of calcium oxalate kidney stones.
