Chewing or crushing the cherry core produces hydrocyanic acid. The symptoms of mild hydrocyanic acid poisoning include headache, dizziness, confusion, anxiety, and vomiting. Large amounts of hydrocyanic acid can cause difficulty breathing, high blood pressure, fast heartbeat, and kidney failure. Other reactions include coma, convulsions, and the most serious cause death of respiratory failure. When giving cherries to children, be careful not to let them chew the cherry core, it is best to deal with it in advance.
