    Preservatives are mainly used to prevent food from becoming spoiled, moldy, and smelly, and can also eliminate odors. Counterfeiters add a large amount of preservatives to foods such as processed bacon and pickles. Ingestion of too much preservative will burn the stomach, cause poisoning and even death, and some preservatives will also cause cancer.
